Inconvenient Truth #2256

Inconvenient Truth #2256: M Gale 5/2/2021

Our country is now run by the Rule Of The Environment, not the Rule of Law. Interesting reality, right? I'm not thinking that we should ignore how our actions affect the planet, or each other, but I am thinking that since we didn't know what DDT was going to do, downstream, and we apparently didn't know how to do long term testing...what makes you think the current vaccines for a very mysterious virus are safe without ANY testing??? Consider the homeowners pesticide branded as "Roundup" that started out as AGENT ORANGE.

We seem to always be in a state of Extremism; it's all one way or the other. We seem to ignore (although we can make a movie about it...) the Shades of Grey between the Black and White extremes of the pendulum. I'm not talking about the watered down results of negotiation, the give and take, the requirement to give up something to get something; I'm talking about ratcheting away from extremism to achieve a realistic solution. We, the people of earth, have never...and will never...achieve perfection. Not in this life. Perfection of any kind is a goal, while life is simply the journey. Even if left completely alone, the earth itself will never achieve perfection, it is affected by too many outside influences...like the Sun, our moon, comets, meteors, "space debris", and ultimately, OTHER galaxies.

Perfection is a human concept, not a concept of nature. Nature, or what is natural, is in a constant state of change seeking a balance we do not understand. We see it, we pretend to study it, we measure it, we record it, we analyze it, but we don't understand it. We don't understand its goal. We stop along the path and declare, "okay, we get it, this is the answer" and then it changes, again, and we start over with the new data: measure, analyze, predict, and put another stick in the sand and act all knowing and proud and then - it changes, again. We create and then apply new tools to aid our endeavor to understand life and the universe. It seems to be in our nature. Our problem is: we have no clue what to do with what we discover, other than mistakenly employ that partial information recklessly. And, it turns out that those of us who should never be left alone, unsupervised, spend the better part of their miserable lives pretending to understand and then somehow enforce their myopic understanding on the rest of us, for a time... until a new understanding is presented and away we go again.

OMG, I just tried to understand the term "universe" by dividing it into uni and verse. When I chose to look up 'verse' in the dictionary (online) it gave me a bunch of breakdown choices: Poetry, Religion, Music, and Other Uses. Under Other Uses, it offered: "Verse Protocol, a networking protocol allowing real-time communication between computer graphics software." And under Religion, it only offered the Bible and the Quran. That's interesting. Now I thought, "uni" means "one", in Latin, but it turns out that it also refers to a "sea urchin" in Japanese cuisine! There's also a Uni-language in Papua New Guinea! These "rabbit holes" make life worth living...
